◈ “Further expanding successful overseas AI data center projects… Providing active support through regulatory improvements and financial assistance”

□ The Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND, headed by President and CEO Bok-hwan Kim), announced that it has secured approximately USD 107 million in overseas contracts through the AI-Ready Data Center Development Project in Jakarta, Indonesia, undertaken in cooperation with Korean companies.

  • The project marks the first entry by Korean companies into the overseas commercial data center market and the first project in which Korean companies will build and operate an AI-ready data center overseas. It represents a significant step toward establishing a foothold in global markets for emerging industries, including AI and big data.

□ The project involves the construction and operation of an AI-ready data center in Jakarta, Indonesia, with one basement level, 11 above-ground floors, and a total floor area of approximately 49,000 square meters. The total project cost is approximately USD 320 million.

  • Korean investors, including the Plus Indonesia IDC Fund, S Fund, and KIND, are participating as joint project sponsors alongside SM+, an affiliate of Indonesia's Sinar Mas Group. KIND has made a USD 14 million equity investment, serving as a catalyst for the project's implementation.

□ In particular, Korean companies have generated tangible economic benefits by participating across all stages of the project, from construction and key equipment supply to operations.

  • (Construction and Operations) LG CNS, which has extensive experience in data center operations, is responsible for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) works and operations. The company has secured at least USD 70 million in contracts, comprising USD 64 million for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and USD 6 million for operations and maintenance (O&M).

  • (Equipment Exports) Korean-made products have also been selected for the data center's key systems. LG Electronics will supply cooling systems, while LG Energy Solution will supply batteries for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
  • (Investment) KIND's participation in the project contributed to USD 37 million in investment-related achievements, bringing the total value of overseas contracts secured by Korean companies to approximately USD 107 million.

□ This project is a representative example of the "Team Korea" integrated overseas market entry model jointly pursued by the AI Data Center (AIDC) Construction Industry Promotion Forum and KIND.

  • To respond to rapidly growing demand for data centers in the AI era and develop data centers into a new growth engine for the construction industry, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) previously launched the AIDC Construction Industry Promotion Forum, bringing together approximately 80 organizations from industry, academia, research institutions, and government. The forum has identified policy priorities and conducted related research in areas including ▲ manufacturing and construction ▲ operations and maintenance ▲ regulations and standardization ▲ overseas expansion and financial support.

  • The project demonstrates the effectiveness of the forum's proposed policy direction for supporting overseas expansion, with KIND's policy financing investment serving as a catalyst and Korean companies jointly securing contracts for construction, equipment supply, and operations.

□ Building on this project, KIND plans to expand its investment portfolio into high-value-added digital infrastructure and continue identifying overseas investment opportunities linked to emerging industries such as AI and big data.

  • Through public-private cooperation, KIND will bring together the technological expertise and project execution capabilities of Korean companies to actively support overseas digital infrastructure development and export expansion aligned with Korea's national AI strategy.

□ Meanwhile, MOLIT stated that it will build on this achievement and continue providing comprehensive support, including regulatory improvements and financial assistance, to help the government, public institutions, and private companies work as one team and achieve further success in overseas markets for high-value-added AI data centers.
